Led by by rookie Max Ferdinand, the Baltimore Blast defeated the Monterrey La RaZa, 12-8, Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena to snap a five-game losing streak. La RaZa took an early 2-0 lead on a Shaun David goal but Ferdinand scored his first of three goals just six seconds later to tie the game at 2-2.
Alejandro Morales scored in the 12th minute of the first quarter to put La RaZa back on top, 4-2, but Ferdinand scored his second goal of the game to even it up at 4-4.
Jorge Duran scored halfway through the second quarter to break the tie and give La RaZa a 6-4 lead.
The Blast scored three goals in the third quarter to tie the game then take their first lead of the night. All-time leading scorer Denison Cabral started the scoring, tying the game at 6-6 and Rod Dyachenko followed up with his first goal of the season to put the Blast on top, 8-6. Defender Jonathan Greenfield scored in the ninth minute to extend Baltimore's lead to 10-6.
Ferdinand completed his hat trick in the second minute of the final quarter to give the Blast a 12-6 lead. La RaZa's Victor Santibanez ended the Blast's scoring run and cut into the lead in the seventh minute, making the final score 12-8.
The Blast are 6-7 on the season and have moved into third place, two games behind the first-place La RaZa (9-6).
Notes:
* Ferdinand recorded his second hat trick of the season.
* Dave Kern was in goal in place of Sagu who was serving a one-game MISL suspension following a red card.
* La RaZa played without Angel Hernandez who also received a red card in the last game between the teams.
* The Blast's last five straight losses was in December of 2007 (November 30 through December 15). Rookie Adriano Dos Santos is also out of the lineup tonight with an elbow injury.
