Wave bring up two reserve players

02/18/2010 10:57 PM - MILWAUKEE (Feb. 17, 2010) – Two key players from the Wave Reserves, who won the prestigious President’s Cup in Madison last weekend, have been signed to the first team to fill absences created by injury and illness.

Alex MegsonAlex Megson, a second forward from Tacoma, Wash., and Pablo, a midfielder from Florianopolis, Brazil, have trained with the first team all season and are familiar with Keith Tozer’s system and the other first-team players.

Tozer placed Jonathan Santos on the full-season injured list for a knee injury, and Marco Terminesi on the five-game injured list due to his illness.

Megson, 24, is from Tacoma, Wash. His father, Neil, was an all-star player with the old Tacoma Stars of the original MISL. Alex played for the Wenatchee Fire of the Premier Arena Soccer League Pro division last year, racking up a team-high 22 goals and three assists in 11 games. Outdoors, he helped lead the Kitsap Pumas of the USL Premier Development League to the Northwest Division title with two goals and four assists in 14 appearances.

“He got his fight and grit from his father,” Tozer said. “He’s got tremendous speed, great skill, a great shot and a nose for the goal. He’s a tremendous addition to the depth of our team.”

“I’m excited, this looks like a team that’s got a good chance to get a ring,” Megson said. “It’s a great place to start my career.”

PabloMegson scored 17 goals in seven games and was 3-for-3 in penalty kicks as the Wave Reserves captured that President’s Cup. Pablo played the entire tournament, never coming off the field, and also was 3-for-3 from the spot.

Pablo, whose full name is Pablo Daniel da Silva, played with Brazilian futsal juggernaut Malwee in 2006, and also was loaned to Foz do Iguacu, in the same league, for a time. In Hungary, Pablo’s futsal club participated in the UEFA Champions League, and he also played for the Brazilian national team in arena soccer in a tournament in Mexico in 2008.

“He’s got great ball possession, left-footed, very skillful,” Tozer said. “He’s a great addition to the team.”

The Wave's next game is at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 against the Philadelphia KiXX.
